My Mission:

To provide compassionate, thorough and professional support to those trying to navigate the complexities of today’s healthcare system while at the same time advocating for their dignity, their wishes and access to quality care.

My personal and professional
healthcare qualifications

PERSONAL: I have assisted with my dads recovery from brain surgery from two brain bleeds, my moms 2.5 year stage IV fight with with pancreatic cancer, my mother-in-laws two hospital stays from pneumonia and spinal infections, my priests 10 week hospital stay from covid complications, and all of the hospital stays experienced while raising two adventurous and athletic boys.

PROFESSIONAL: I was a medical case manager for 15 years and then transitioned into healthcare administration for 12  years. I started as a manager of patient access (how patients get appointments) and worked my way up the corporate ladder to a Director of Access and Patient Experience for the largest non-profit healthcare system in the country and then to Vice President of Patient Experience  overseeing 500 + medical providers for an anesthesia group. (resume available upon request)

I understand medical terminology and am very comfortable speaking with physicians, nurses and staff and being able to effectively communicate medical information to my client and/or family members in an easy to understand way. I’ve coordinated medical care for thousands of patients and specialty and complicated care for injured workers, military special forces, and professional athletes during my tenure in healthcare.  I understand how to advocate a persons wishes while using the correct channels to proactively and  expeditiously facilitate care for their health needs. I am skilled in resolving medical complaints and ensuring patients have the best possible experience and outcomes.

Most importantly, I believe in the Golden Rule and my clients become like family to me.

Why choose me for advocacy?

I was born to be a caregiver. My greatest joy in life has been raising my two boys .  A close second though is the joy I get from caring for others when they are unable to do so for themselves.  There is nothing more rewarding than knowing I can use my personal and professional experience to make a difference in someone’s life for the better. I feel like every experience in my life has been created specifically for this role – thank you God.

Given how overworked and understaffed hospital providers, nurses and staff are, as well as how busy most loved one’s lives are,  there is a tremendous need for patient advocacy. Some statistics say 50% of all elderly are “solo” agers and do not have anyone to support them through a healthcare crisis.   Helping educate and coordinate care for patients who have just received a life changing diagnosis or sitting by a patient’s bedside and holding their hand through what may be the most difficult and most vulnerable time in their life,  while ensuring they receive quality care and are treated with respect, dignity and compassion throughout their entire hospital stay,  is my mission. I see it as one of the greatest gifts I can offer a person.  My clients never have to fear facing medical challenges alone or without someone looking out for them and their best interests.

I was considering a career change and possibly graduate school. Through extensive assessments and our discussions, Maria helped me sort out what was important to me and figure out a way forward. Maria is a great listener. She remembered details and made suggestions I would not have thought of. I really appreciated her positivity and looked forward to our sessions.
